Synopsis:

From the Neanderthals to the victims of globalization

A tribute to the agents of history who have been left out of the official chronicle or who have been disparaged by it

It is said that history is always written by the victors and, in doing so, they leave out the losers, ignore them or treat them in such a way as to provoke contempt and even hatred. The past should be narrated as it was, or at least as the historian, in view of his sources, believes it was, without prejudices, with honesty and intellectual rigor. And to do this requires giving a voice to those who have been deprived of the opportunity to tell their story and listening at least to their version of the facts in order to build a balanced account of our history as a species.

A History of Losers does not speak of wars or battles; it speaks of people, peoples and nations. Through its pages parade heretics and foreigners, madmen and outcasts, witches and beggars; but also disinherited kings, dreamers at the wrong time, rebels without a cause, lovers of the forbidden, wayfarers without a path... and it aims, above all, to tell history in a different way, different from the traditional one. As Nietzsche wrote: “We need history, but we need it in a different way than the pampered idler in the gardens of knowledge”.
