A Place To Return To

Summer, 2017. When Tomás ends up on the dole, he decides to take an unusual job for the summer. He will become chauffeur and guide for Tess, a wealthy woman from Miami, and her adolescent daughter during a three-week trip through the south of Spain. There is only one condition: Hugo, his thirteen-year-old son, whom he’s had a complicated relationship since his divorce, has to come along. And so these four people embark upon a journey that will lead them back to Tess’s family origins, and along the way, they will find out that the most important things are not necessarily the most urgent ones.

The photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson said that the ultimate point of photography was to capture a unique moment that would never exist again. He called it “the decisive instant.” It is these fleeting and unrepeatable moments that lie at the center of this novel.
