Then Nox Harker arrives. Charismatic and unsettlingly attentive, he seems to orbit Ethel with predatory patience. Behind the façade, Nox is exactly what she fears: a demon caught between obedience and desire, sent to awaken her blood magic and drive her toward the inevitable. As Ethel’s awakening accelerates, the town’s veneer cracks: bodies appear, faith turns feral, and an enemy inside Ebonwick begins hunting the Ashbournes with rituals steeped in black magic. The deeper Ethel digs into her family’s past—and the Underworld’s rules—the more she realizes the true horror isn’t that she might become a monster, but that everyone around her has been managing that outcome for years.
