Portada Eager Ambitions

Eager Ambitions

Publishing date:4/03/2014

Synopsis:

With the arrival of spring, the town prepares to receive the cream of the Spanish lyrical scene, which is gathering for the third Poetry Congress. The three day event seems the perfect opportunity for the participants to let their hair down and they arrive in readiness for debauchery with common goals: sex, fun and literary glory, preferably accompanied by the failure of their rivals.

Everything is possible at these events. If something can go wrong, it’ll go worse at a congress that will most likely never be held again.

An exploration of the miseries of life inside the poetic bubble, a comedy of entanglements that is both acidic and tender – the perfect recipe for good humour.

Reviews

A mastery of language, brilliance, the solemn tone of the narrator and the risqué parody of the plot are the ingredients that Fernando Aramburu has thrust into the service of a hilarious novel that is part of the satirical tradition of Spanish literature; a genre that can make the most incisive criticism at the same time as it has you laughing out loud.

“A daring satire of literary society written with great technical mastery and a singularly graphic and vivacious language.” JURY OF THE BIBLIOTECA BREVE PRIZE
