The Curse of the Big House

This is the story of Miguel Zapata Sáez, Tío Lobo, a modest rancher who at the end of the 19th century astutely took advantage of the incipient mining industry in the Sierra de La Unión (Murcia) and, from a small sale designed to provide service to the workers, built an authentic empire. This true and unknown story is told by a passionate, direct, feminine voice that flows forth unchecked. Amorous passions, love-hate relationships, intricate family history, feelings of revenge, mercy, generosity and tragedy are all entwined on every page.

The action takes place in an original geographical location, similar to the American Far West: La Unión, in Murcia (more specifically, Portmán). At the end of the 19th century this was a lawless land, where Juan Ramón Lucas creates a setting full of characters who are brutal (sometimes to the extreme), tender, and ruthless, who reveal what life was like in that part of the world.
