After a long and splendid reign, at the death of Alfonso VIII the Good, and the Great, uncertainty looms over Castile: Enrique, the heir, who is only twelve years old, dies unexpectedly and violently, leaving the throne vacant.

In a masterful move, Berenguela, Alfonso’s first-born daughter, with boldness and a sense of opportunity, manages to have her son Fernando, just a teenager, crowned king.

This movement will unleash both oppositions and adhesions that the astute Berenguela will always know how to handle in favor of the dynasty and of Ferdinand III the Saint, who will be destined to complete the Reconquista for the kingdom of Castile.
