Synopsis:

A gothic thriller, with hints of horror and a Victorian setting, in which historical and supernatural elements intertwine.

Barcelona, 1854. The city is being choked by its old medieval walls, infested with epidemics and superstitions, where death and miracles seem to lurk at every arch and street corner. When the uncorruptedbody of a Roman maiden is found at the foot of a legendary well, fear grips the populace.

Octavio Reigosa, a cynical police inspector, will be charged with investigating a series of bloody crimes and impossible miracles that occur after the appearance of the Lady of the Well. And to do so he will need the help of Andreu Palafox, a young maker of automatons who has his own impossible secret: an involuntary gift (or perhaps a curse) for seeing into the past.

Police inspector Octavio Reigosa and eccentric medium Andreu Palafox join together to resolve supernatural mysterys in a superstitious city.

Reviews

A novel characterised by its evocative and disturbing style, reminiscent of the aesthetics of successful series such as Penny Dreadful or Taboo. Police inspector Octavio Reigosa and eccentric medium Andreu Palafox join together to resolve supernatural mysterys in a superstitious city.

The perfect mixture of a classic Victorian crime novel and the supernatural, Barcelona continues to be hemmed in by it walls. The discovery of an uncorrupted body may be a sign that the end of days is approaching.

The author travels back in time to a dark and gothic Barcelona full of legends, phantoms and spectres, full of contrasts between modernity and tradition.
