Northern Spain, 1895: Two women leave the peaceful town of Colombres to travel to the distant island of Cuba. Their reasons couldn’t be more different.
Mar, the daughter of the town doctor, embarks on the journey to follow her father, who is assigned to manage a clinic on a sugar plantation called Dos Hermanos.
Paulina, a widow too young and of humble origin, is forced to board the ship to marry the prestigious sugar master of the estate, a man she doesn’t know.
The first dreams of becoming a doctor; the second wonders if she will be happy with her soon-to-be husband.
