Priscilla Vela

Priscilla Vela, a multidisciplinary artist, author, researcher, communicator, and mom. Priscilla, with her restless, imaginative, and curious nature, sees her craft as an infinite and artisanal game of creating realities, with the ultimate goal of filling the world with play and beauty.

After more than 30 years of an international career as a classical and experimental musician, Priscilla became a mother, which shook her inner world and reshaped her priorities. During those early years of self-discovery, she created the blog and social media profiles of Mamá Extraterrestre, and began researching play and creativity in childhood, which led to the publication of her first books: Piezas sueltas: el juego infinito de crear and Piezas sueltas: el juego intangible (Litera Libros, 2019 and 2023).

Today, through the LaPieza project, Priscilla plays at creating holistic ecosystems, scenarios, materials, energies, and play experiences—living spaces to be inhabited by children of all ages. She lives in rural Asturias, where she occasionally opens her small laboratory, a creative paradise in nature called Inventarium, to children and families in the area. Additionally, she frequently shares her knowledge worldwide to transmit the wonderful philosophy of piezas sueltas (loose parts) to families, childhood professionals, and anyone who wishes to reconnect with their essence and creative power.
