At a Given Moment. Oral history of the Dream Team

The Oral History of the Dream Team is a great tribute to this legendary team, built from the voices of its own protagonists, representing the perfect anatomy of Johan Cruyff’s Barcelona and the entire generation that amazed the world.

On the afternoon of Thursday, April 28, 1988, the phones of the main sports desks of Catalan media outlets began to ring. They were unexpectedly summoned to a press conference at the Hesperia Hotel in Barcelona. The majority of the players from FC Barcelona's squad were the ones calling the press. The only absentees were English forward Gary Lineker, who was with his national team in Hungary, winger Francisco López López, who was recovering from surgery, and German midfielder Bernd Schuster, who, despite promising his teammate, captain, and spokesperson José Ramón Alexanco that he would attend, was absent.

Three days later, Barça faced Madrid. Despite a 2-0 victory, the club decided to start a new era, firing coach Luis Aragonés and fourteen of his players. Days later, the new coach was introduced: none other than the Barça legend Johan Cruyff. Along with him came twelve new players, and in the following seasons, iconic names such as Laudrup, Koeman, Stoichkov, and Romário would arrive in Barcelona. Global stars who would be joined by local talents like Guardiola, Amor, Ferrer, and Sergi Barjuan. They were the Dream Team, a legendary squad that between 1988 and 1996 would change the course of the club's history and international football, conquering, with their total football of possession and speed, four consecutive La Liga titles, one European Cup, one Cup Winners' Cup, one European Super Cup, and three Spanish Super Cups, among other trophies.
