After nearly a decade of motherhood and five years supporting mothers, I return to write to speak more deeply about the maternal experience and the political challenge ahead to restore autonomy to women in their sexual and reproductive processes. In Comadres, I address all the theory and analysis I can offer on the current situation of mothers in Spain. But I also share my experiences as a mother, my most intimate feelings, and everything I've discovered and learned alongside hundreds of women. I talk about childbirth, obstetric violence, unconditional love, maternal desire, comadres, other ways of doing things, tenderness, neuroscience, and the empirical knowledge I’ve gained from accompanying so many women at El refugi de les mares. Everything you need to know about motherhood, mothers already know. Devoting myself to listening to them over these years allows me to give voice today to everything shared with them.

This book is a love letter and a thank you to the comadres. The secret of motherhood was being with other mothers. The secret has always been to be together.
