The Gesture

They have been together for twenty-three years. They have two children, two mortgages, a large car, and far too much accumulated exhaustion. Hoping to rekindle their relationship, he decides to surprise her with a romantic gesture: a trip to Novo Mesto, the picturesque Slovenian town where they shared their first kiss. But when the long-awaited day arrives, things do not unfold as he had imagined.

The Gesture offers a biting portrait of an era ruled by haste and inattention, setting it against a relationship that, after years together, ought to rely on precisely the opposite: the slow and conscious maturation of a love built on care, listening, and commitment.

Jesús Carrasco continues his exploration of the conflicts of domestic life, this time entering the heart of a couple in which a seemingly minor gesture becomes a decisive test.
